Civil Rights

It all started with opinion
An opinion of most whites
That they were more

Those thoughts thickened to hatred
The hatred led to death
People wanted change
But it would require action

The action caused more death
But perhaps less death
Than if things were left
Left the way they were

When the rights were won
And the battle was over
The opinions seemed to change
And the people who fought knew
That they had helped
Their children
Their children’s children
So that they would not be plagued
By the same opinion
An opinion of most whites…
